Tuesdays mornings from 9:00 am to 10:30 A.M.
This weekly breakfast is a time for neighbors to enjoy a meal while building community with one another. Volunteers, from both inside and outside of this neighborhood, are needed. Volunteers are required in order to prepare and serve breakfast. Volunteers are also utilized during this time to help neighborhood residents by offering hygiene items.
Monthly Food Pantry
Last Thursday of the month from 4:30 pm to 5:30 P.M.
While there is a large Food Pantry network in Des Moines, Friendship Center offers a supplemental Food program to neighbors in the immediate area.
Family Fun Night (March through December, Movies in summer months)
Last Saturday of the month. Dinner from 5:00 pm to 6:30 pm and Movie from 6:30 pm to 9:00 pm.
Churches, small groups or other volunteers cook and serve this meal for the community. Saturday Suppers offer an opportunity to share a meal and build relationships with the community. A brief devotional is always shared during the meal.
Following the Meal, the center will show a Family Friendly Movie outdoors (during summer months) with free popcorn and drinks. All are welcomed to attend.
English as a Second Language Class
Mondays at 5:00 pm to 6 P.M.
Many in our community do not speak English as their primary language. These classes are designed to offer an opportunity for students to gain English fluency in the hopes that better English skills will bring job security, enhance family systems and impact personal growth. Classes are taught and childcare is provided by trained Friendship Center volunteers.
After-School Kids Club
Tuesdays from 3:30 pm to 4: 45 pm (Meal Provided). Wednesdays from 2:00 pm to 3:15 pm (Snack Only).
Nutritious snacks, bible study and homework assistance is provided every Tuesday and Wednesday during the school year. Volunteers assist in all aspects of this ministry from leading age-appropriate Bible Studies, playing games and offering homework help. This ministry has been tremendously important in building a spiritual foundation for the students with an understanding that God loves them and has a purpose for them.
Day of Week and Time TBD
The center will be providing quarterly specialty classes offered to the community from various volunteers throughout Central Iowa. Classes being considered now are Ballet, Art painting, Baking Class, Taekwondo, Trades, Financial Peace University, and etc. If you have a passion and would be willing to teach a class for no more than 3 months at a time, please contact Joe at firstname.lastname@example.org.
Disciples’ Youth Group
Friday’s at 3:45 pm to 5:15 pm (Dinner Provided).
6th – 12th Grade
Middle and High school youth share a meal and Bible study during this After-School program. This ministry has been vital in developing a desire in youth to serve God by serving effectively in their community.
Mom’s Bible Study
2nd Thursday of every month starting at 5:00 pm to 7 pm.
Volunteers lead Ladies Bible Study at the center on the 2nd Thursday of every month. Ladies share a meal and open God’s word and offer encouragement to each other. Daycare can be provided. I.M.A.G.E. Men’s Bible Study
Every Saturday from 1-2:30 pm. I.M.A.G.E (Inmate-Movement-Against-Gang-Evolution) is designed to help ex-convicts to become purpose drive individuals and prepare for successful re-entry. This faith-based program started at North Central Correctional Facility in Rockwell City, Iowa and now will have a central Iowa location at the center.

Life Skill Classes
Various Life Skill Classes are offered through the Center. Topics such as budgeting, parenting, self-defense and job readiness classes have been offered in the past. Volunteers are relied upon to share their knowledge and expertise with these classes. If you would like to teach a class, please email email@example.com.
Children and youth, who participate in After-School Kids Club, are invited to a year-end Christmas party. Gifts are provided by local volunteers and church groups. Additionally, families of Kids Club participants are invited to a Christmas Brunch. Children and youth are able to give their family members gifts that are provided by churches and individuals.
One week summer camps are offered at the center for children ages Kindergarten through 8th grade. Summer camps run from 9:00 am to 1 pm, Monday through Friday, with lunch provided.
